We did my first cross country a couple days ago. The weather was great and it turned out very well. I think the planning is pretty easy. I also think its fun, so I guess that helps make it easy. :)
We went from MGY to TZR which is a 54 mile leg. TZR to CYO which is 28 miles. Finally CYO back to MGY which is about 58 miles. Total time on the Hobbs meter for the day, 1.8.
TZR is the first airport I've been to with a control tower. I was a little nervous, and probably still will be next time I go back, but its all about telling them what you want to do and doing what they tell you. Around here, that vast majority of my flying is and will be at uncontrolled airports. I'll meet the requirements (3 full stops at a controlled airport I believe) for my PP but not much more.
I really enjoyed the trip. Its nice to actually plan and go somewhere rather than fly in circles for an hour.
We went up yesterday and hit a few of the local airports to do landings somewhere different. I don't want to get to comfortable at my home airport. On top of a change of scenery, it was pretty windy and bumpy. Oh yeah... and it spit rain at us a few times. Sufficed to say it was one of the more nervous day I've had. Next week, after the rain moves through this weekend, I'm going to do some solo time around the practice area. Then its time for my first solo cross country. Just to and from CYO. Its an easy trip with lots of landmarks so it should be a good time.

Congrats on the first cross country.
I got my first $100 hamburger as a student at JPs Barbecue Ribs located on the field at TZR. I flew there and grabbed dinner when I was flying my long solo cross country (http://www.myflightblog.com/archives/000058.php)
I'll have to stop and grab lunch there sometime. Thanks for the info.
I know what you mean about the planning part. I really enjoy that too. Good luck on your solo cross country and have fun! :)
